Is Periodontal Disease Curable? by Plano, TX dentists Dr. Stephen Bass and Dr. Ellen Hall

Is Periodontal Disease Curable?

Unfortunately, periodontal disease is not curable. There's treatment of the disease and then maintenance of the disease condition. Most treatment involves either surgical or non-surgical treatment, and the maintenance of the treatment is routine cleanings usually alternated between our dental office and your general dentist's office.

Much like high blood pressure where you take a blood pressure medication to control your blood pressure, same thing with periodontal disease. It requires continued maintenance, follow-up, and evaluation. In certain situations, just like high blood pressure may require a change in the blood pressure medication, periodontal disease may require modifications of your treatment or additional methodologies used to address problems in the future.
